Alternator Death '93 E150 5.8L
Just replaced alternator on my '93 E150 van and with the new Alt. came a warning sticker that read "battery has to be charged to minimum of 12.6 volts or Alternator Death will occur?" I've worked on my own autos since the mid '60s, but have never seen this type of warning. Curious as to why a battery voltage lower than 12.6 vdc would cause "alternator death". Educate me.

If you install an alt. and then start it without making sure the battery has been recharged then the alt. has to try and recharge it. Sometimes this is too much stress on the alt. and it will fail prematurely. It's a CYA thing.
