I do a lot of towing, typically in the 5000-10000 pound range, and the majority of that is on the highway.
I took my bald 285/75r16 Hankook Dynapros off and threw on a set of 265/75r16 Mastercraps on, and they are way too loud for me, plus I don't like the size as much as I did the 285s, so I will be going back to the 285's.
I need something that is really quiet on the highway, but good for the occasional mud when fishing or at a customers yard. Something that is good on mileage, and doesn't break the bank. I want that aggressive look, but I am tired of the headaches on long trips (which I do plenty of). Oh, and I can't spend more than $750 on the tires before install.
I had my eye on the Michelin LTX, but I feel like it lacks that aesthetic I am after.
Anybody got any ideas? Attached is a picture of the truck in question to help with ideas

I had a set of the same Mastercrafts. Not a fan. The price constraints are gonna hurt the choices the most. I absolutely LOVE Goodyear Duratracs, they look very aggresive, they rock off road and in the snow however they are not the greatest for towing. I tow 90% of the time on highway. I get about 25-30K out of a set. Had 3 sets so far and would buy again.
Wife’s Armada has Nitto Terra Grapplers and they are very nice as well. Look good, and seem to be wearing well. Another plus is they have a mileage warranty, which is rare in LT tires.
Truck I just bought a truck with BFG’s All Terrains which has always been a good choice. Still look good and I like the white lettering on these tires. They are the best tread design for highway/All terrain driving.
All those tires are gonna be more in the $1,000 range though unless you get them on rebate through the supplier which would bring them down $160-$175.
A lot of guys like the Goodyear Silent Armors also. I hope some of this is helpful. Interested to see what you choose.
I had Cooper AT3s on a different truck. They were great tires. Just aggressive enough to pull you through mild mud, did great in the snow, not too noisy... I have nothing bad to say about them.
Edit: I've had2 sets of BFG all terrains too and I like them, but I think the coopers actually clear mud better, while still being quieter. Nothing wrong with them. They're great tires, but for your application I think the AT3s are a better choice.
If I remember correctly, last time I bought my Michelins I was also looking at tires made by? / sold at Firestone tire stores. Transforce Ht2
I do not remeber the name, but it was stock size for 2wd

I don't understand how a person can care more about how a tire looks than how the tire performs. If you want the best highway tire, get the Michelin Defender LTX. Nobody is going to walk up to your truck and say "look at these normal tires!" and if someone was dumb enough to do that, why would you care about the opinion of a brainless stranger?
The Goodyear Silent Armors look promising, any reports on road noise for them?
I also like the Cooper AT3's too. They look promising as well. I will have to look into them.
One thing I just remembered, I have the opportunity to get a set of 285/75r16 Toyo Open Country AT2's for $600 brand new, but the noise complaints turned me off of that idea. I've heard noise complaints for the BFG K02's as well.

That's a great deal for Toyos. Must be a phase out promo with the new Toyo AT3s. That's how I got my first set of the cooper at3s - when the xlt more aggressive sidewall treads just came out. Got 35x12.5s load E for $597.04. They're USA made and have 60k mi warranty.

Dave, its alot about how I want my own rig to look. IMO trucks look better with a more aggressive tire. If I didn't have the brush guard and headache rack on there, you bet I'd be slapping a set of HTs on there.
in my defense, I was about to get these but got scared off by the seeming lack of reviews here. Anybody got experience with them? They're a discount tire exclusive.

You mentioned occasional mud would be a factor in your decision. I see the functional purpose in your desire for a more aggressive tire. Even if just for looks, it's your rig - do you.

All is good as far as balljoints, tie rod, and wheel bearings. Shocks have 6 years on them but are tight
The dynapros were badly cupped, but I bought the truck 15k miles ago (December 2020) and replaced the drag link and sway bar links due to play. Only thing wrong up there now is my needle bearings started grinding in the middle of Kansas City last night, locked in the hubs and kept going.
The cupping may have simply been due to infrequent rotations.
Just a little update, I think I am going to go with the Discoverer ATP2 I posted in post #9.
Not many reviews around, so I suppose I will be the guinea pig.
Does anyone have any experience or know of anyone running these?
Just my two cents worth.
I've been driving super duty's since 2000. I've had three - 2 diesels and currently a 6.2. These trucks eat tires. If your suspension hasn't had a tune up in 75-100K, they're worse. I've run factory Continentals, factory BFG's, BFG KO's, Toyo's, Cooper AT3's, Master Crafts, and currently Michelin defender's. After 20K, they all lose their performance characteristics. Some will then wear like iron until about 40K, but they all, IME will require replacement if you are demanding new tire performance.
If you are only on road or occasionally dirt roads and very occasionally tow go for the Michelins for the new tire ride. If you tow a fair amount and are mostly on road, go with the Toyo HT's. If you mud or work off road, go with the BFG's. Join Costco as they run great deals on the BFG's.. I currently have the Michelin tire with about 20 and the ride is mostly gone. Slipping when taking off in the rain, you know the picture. They're not any better than the Toyo or Cooper tire.
Good luck!
