Hi All, Got her out of hibernation and fixed a vacuum leak and oil change etc. When I went to move her there was nothing, no start, no crank, no lights etc. It worked fine after I fixed the vacuum leak, I immediately suspected ignition actuator but why no lights or power anywhere? 50,000 klm on truck and new batteries. Could a fuse, relay or fusible link do this? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Even with new batteries what are you getting for voltage?
If something was left on over night they could be stone dead!
What shape are the battery cables in? Pictures so we can see might help.
The pos + cable from batteries gets hooked to a starting relay or also called a solenoid and should have a few other smaller wires going to the same stud.
The smaller wires are called fuseable links. They are a slow burn fuse and when they go bad you can not tell unless you check for voltage at the stud and where the link connects to the main wire of the harness.
You can tell where the link ends as the outer covering is different.
The link could also have a bad connection at the stud.
The link wires feed power to the inside of the truck and protects the ALT.
If a link is bad you can get replacements from the auto parts store.

Hi FuzzFace
Thanks or the reply. I had a starter/alt. shop for years so I am familiar with the solenoid etc. I used a test light as I was not near my shop. The "Caper" is plugged into ac while parked so I assumed full charge plus it started the day before after sitting all winter. You were right, both Batteries dead. Looks my inverter shorted out, never seen batteries that only registered mv's before. now to find an inverter to fit a 40 year old rig. thanks again for your help
I am happy I could help.
I may have "talked down" to you being you had a shop but it was not meant that way but on this side we also dont know what skill set the poster has to work with.
I dont know much on inverters but cant think they would be to different over the years.

lol, no offence taken, my bad.
I appreciate the help, actually I was told it's a converter (120vac to 12dc), inverters (12dc to 120 ac), I'm gonna test the inverter today and see if it's fixable, if not I have to wire in a new one. We need a getaway from this covid crap. Take Care.

Hi again, I done some checking and every thing works except the converter will not charge the house battery when plugged into shore power. I know this isn't an rv site but Vanguard folded in ok, Canadian made and work farmed out to different companies, hence no wiring diagrams. I traced everything and the House solenoid is energized when running, key on closed solenoid so Alt charges both. on the stud opposite battery lead are 2 leads. the charge wire coming across from chassis battery and a heavier black with yellow stripe that leads up to the cabin. the single small lead in the center goes to the fuse panel and this energizes the solenoid when key is on. My question is how is it supposed to charge the house battery when on shore power with the solenoid open. Is there another power source maybe in the converter that would go through the ignition close this solenoid when the key is off and rv plugged in? When converter was working it charged both batteries. sorry for the long post but I'm desperate, thanks for any help. I will send a pic later.
