I really dont think that will be an issue. If you want to step up to 35s then I'd say 4.88 is the way to go, but with 33s I think you'll be happy wit 4.56, even running unloaded. That's what I decided on and I never tow anything large enough to mention. It just puts you into a more useful power range. The 6.8 likes to rev. Lugging it at 1800 rpm isn't doing it or you any favors. If life **** hadn't happened I'd already have them in mine. I'll get there though
I'm pretty set on 4:56. If needed I can easily tire up when tire time gets here. Wayne cheaper than having to gear up a second time.
That gear should serve you well with 33"s, and I still recommend a tuner and some custom tunes to make the trans work better for towing, the combo of deeper gears and a good tune transformed my big wagon from a dog towing heavy to a good solid and reliable tow rig for our large TT.
I have this setup and 285/75r16 and 6” lift.
When towing my toys at 75 it never wants to stay in overdrive. It’s running high revs and mileage is horrible. I see others have had good luck with the 4.30 but I can’t agree.
I’m deciding between the 4.56 and 4.88 change. 4.30 to 4.56 doesn’t seem like that much of a change but maybe others on here have done it and can comment? Would you have done the 4.88?
btw I had found some axles from a f350 with the 4.88 gears but was told the axles wouldn’t work on my f250. Can anyone comment as to why?
Buying a new used truck is like a crap shoot. Thats why I'm torn. This ol girl is healthy. Question is are the benefits of the 3v, new suspension, and 5 speed auto worth the risk?

6" lift seems kind of high for only 33" tires, and lift over stock will negatively impact fuel mileage over stock. Guessing that your rig came with 31.6" rubber from Ford the 1.5" increase shouldn't be a huge towing power killer but I think that towing at 75 MPH might be the biggest issue. Pushing a lot of wind while towing toys (you failed to mention the towed weight and if it's a high profile trailer that catches lots wind, both important factors when discussing towing) will be more fuel friendly if the towing sped were a little lower. There are many threads and posts around here with folks talking about how much the mileage drops when towing over 65 or 70 MPH. Pushing the rig to beyond where it is programmed to hold OD under load will force a downshift obviously raising the RPMs and having it drink more gas. Do you currently run any tunes to modify the trans shift strategy over stock? I have found the shift strategy to be best feature of my 5Star tunes, I do all of my towing (12K TT behind 2V V-10 EX) on their 89 Octane Performance tune. With my 4.88s and 35"s (effective 4.39 ratio) my wagon holds OD on most Eastern Interstate Highway grades at my typical 65-ish cruising speed and most trips see 8/9 MPG.

Im keeping my '05 2V V-10 4R100 EX tow rig for a few more years until we are ready to move up to a fifth wheel, keep them healthy with regular maintenance and keep towing!

I believe i am going to do the same. truck is paid for, in great condition and runs/tows fine. However I do believe I am going to replace the timing chains/tensioners/guides at the end of summer. I do get a fair amount of slap on startup. But once oil pressure builds up, the engine is as quiet as a house mouse.
My F-450 has 488 rear gears, 19.5 tires, and at 65 mph runs about 2500 rpms in OD. Towing in 5th gear, can barely make 55 mph at 2500 rpm. Often pull a trailer weighing 18,000 loaded. This truck is awesome for my use.
