I will be removing my tailgate for the camping season and am looking for recommendations on one of the net/mesh tailgates from folks who actually use one on a 2020 + SD.
A link would be great too.
These new tailgates are so bloody heavy-this year it is staying off for the season!
Actually these tailgates are way lighter then my old 2006. I can close it with my finger tips
Anyway, why not do a 2-fer....
I got one of those big Elastic Nets for cargo in the bed... $18 at Walmart. Just hook to near cab area and then hook it from bottom near tailgate to a rail loop.

If he has a bigger truck camper, he can't leave the tailgate on or the truck camper won't fit. And if the truck is his primary vehicle, driving back and forth to work during the week gets expensive and difficult with that much extra weight.
It is why my dad doesn't use his truck camper for camping outside of deer season. Any other camping they do is done in their fifth wheel.
I hear ya. I made a simple stand for my tailgate. I'm half tempted to just store it in my garage attic. My Truck camper hangs over as well, I just run around without a tailgate. Now if there could be a button or feature to not have the camera blue screen when backing up in the dark would be amazing.
No, camper goes on/off throughout the season depending on what we are doing.

There are plugs that came with the truck that blanks off the harness when you remove tailgate.

Yep, there sure are plugs that go in the place of where the tailgate plug into. With the absence of a camera you still get the blue screen of death on the sync 3 screen.

Sounds like the next step would be to move the camera to the bumper somewhere.
No I didn't get the step, no need for me, I use the rear wheel
Purchased a cheap tailgate net off Amazon and thought the warning tag on it was hilarious. It mentioned nothing like this on the package or the Amazon description. Luckily I wasn't going to actually use it as a tailgate net, so not an issue for me.
