I have a 2022 F250 Platinum on order (no VIN yet) and I'm considering adding the 5th wheel prep to the order. I can't find much info and was wondering if it's mainly structural, i.e. additional reinforcement in the bed and chassis? Also, is there anything in the bed such as struts or anything protruding in the bed (for attachment to a hitch)? I don't intend on pulling a 5th wheel now but might in the future. Last question, will there be a problem adding this to my order - I haven't had any experience ordering?
Cheers
All of the structure is under the bed. There are access points in the bed with pucks in them. Pull the pucks and then the hitch drops into the anchor points. (Assuming you buy the right hitch). It also includes an additional wiring plug for the fifth wheel that is inside the bed. If you are ever going to pull a fifth wheel, this option is a must have. It is much more difficult to add it later.
The prep package allows you to easily add a 5er hitch or ball for towing. If you think you will ever tow with your truck, I'd add it. You can actually add it after you get the truck, but it's a lot more expensive.
I've ordered one for my new truck. Already have the slider hitch that will go in it - ordered a short bed truck.
It will also come with the trailer harness and YAW sensor because your platinum already has 360 camera and backup assist. It's a minimal cost to add it now but not later.
The prep package underbed hitch platform also serves as an additional H frame cross member bridging the frame rails.
Additionally, the new "crossmember" mounting interface with those frame rails is validated by Ford, rather than being an add on after the fact from the aftermarket.
get it. Goes without question. this is what the bed will look like. You can see where you lift the covers and drop the ball in or attach the hitch through the holes
I would also suggest making another change. If you are going to pull a fifth wheel at some point you might want to change it to an F350. The increased payload of the 350 will give you more options.
Ditto what FishRanger said. If you are getting a Platinum trim level truck your payload is likely to be on the lower side. If you end up with a 13,000 lb. or heavier 5th wheel and your payload is < 3,000 lbs. you will be over-weight before you put anything in the truck besides yourself.

Agreed. We just got our 2021 F350. They must have made some changes with the refresh because the F350 rides better than the 2018 F250 that we traded in. Quieter too. So, the point is, don't be afraid of the ride of an F350.
