Windshield replacement

My 2020 F-250 XL STX package 6.7 diesel has a long crack in the windshield requiring replacement. I am requesting an OEM replacement and there are 2 options. To decide which of the 2 I need, Safelite asked if my truck has either a lane assist or backup camera and the other option is a basic windshield. My truck has neither of these, but I am wondering if I should get the option with lane assist/backup camera instead of the basic windshield my truck came with from the factory?

Are you paying for this or Insurance? If you are and want to pay extra then go for it. If insurance is then they will only pay to replace what you have. Even if you go to the other windshield what will you gain? I really don't think you will gain anything.

The windshield with the options has a different blacked-out area at the top with clear areas for cameras and sensors. Why would you want that if you don't have the cameras and sensors?

Does your truck fall into the windshield recall?

Why would you consider the windshield required for lane keep etc. if you don't even have those options?

Ask Safelite if the windshield is an OEM windshield by Carlite.
If you want to make sure you get an OEM windshield, just have it replaced at your local Ford dealer so they can order it from the parts department or they might even have it in stock.

All good questions.

Insurance is paying for the new windshield, but I have a deductible.

There may be no advantage to getting the windshield with the added features, but I am not sure, so I am asking here. Is it possible to add lane assist later if I have this windshield?

I don't know of a recall on the windshield for my truck.

I tried to get my windshield repaired by a local ford dealer and they referred me to a glass shop instead. Is Carlite the OEM? Thanks for the help!

There really is no advantage to getting the windshield with the added features, by the time you get all the stuff to make them work and put in the time.

Carlite is the MFG of Ford glass.

If you are registered at Ford Owner you can see if there is a recall etc on your truck. You can also download any software updates your radio my require.

Register here Owner Ford

Never hurts to ask.

Don't know how they are today, but OEM Ford windshields used to suck, big time, crack way easier than an aftermarket.

You are right, so I checked and no recalls. Thanks for the link!

I've been wondering about this myself. My brother is on his 3rd windshield for his 2019. He keeps going OEM. Everything I have read leads me to believe the OEM still suck, or damage easy, but I haven't seen anything that says the same is or isn't true of the non OEM.

Does your truck have the AEB option? Most dealers ordered this option on STX trucks and if so it uses the lane assist windshield. As for backup camera all trucks get one standard.

I didn't mean backup camera. I think the camera Safelite is asking about is a camera in front? I am looking to see if I have the AEB option. My truck has lane assist side mirrors is seems, but it is not working or maybe it is not turned on.

I despise Safelite. I think they are a bunch of crooks when it comes to the lane keeping feature.

If you have auto high beam headlights and pre collision warning there will be a kinda square box that looks like a speaker at the front of the overhead console. That is a camera to detect other lights to auto dim your brights. The only difference between the two diff windshields will be the spot for the camera to see out of. But if you don't have the options already installed then go with the reg one. The glass is just glass.

Look at your window sticker. A XL truck can't have lane assist so that's out. The BLIS system if equipped doesn't use anything in the windshield.
