Tailhousing bushing
I have a vibration in my truck (77 f150 400/C6) around 60+ mph. I took it in and they told be the u-joints and the tailhousing bushing were going out. I think i understand how to do they u-joints but how do i fix the tailhousing bushing? Is it in the end of the trannsmission of the front of the rear end?
Thanks
David
P.S. Just so ya dont worry I am not driving it.
Then I lightly lube the housing and new bushing, align it properly with regards to the oil return hole in it, and "start" it squarely with a mallet. Then I use my press and various attachments to press it in. The bushing gets pressed below the level of the outermost metal, so the right cylinder size attachment is needed to press it all the way down. It takes quite a bit of force to put it all the way in.
Found the transmission extension bushing for the 4R70W at Consolidated Transmission Parts, 866-798-8726.
Removed the transmission extension and took to Amoco and they pressed out the old bushing and pressed in the new for $5. Make sure you have the necessary clearance between the bushing & driveshaft yoke. I had to emery cloth the back side of the bushing due to pressing it in. Took a little off so as not to spin the bushing. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

>The bushing was worn to the point that the oil groves were mostly gone.
All is well-no vibration.
