Oxygen Sensors

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the oxygen sensor for a 92 5.0 (one with an 8" lead, the other with a 16" lead) other than the cost?

Oxygen Sensors

1992 F 150 supercab. Two sensors are listed for this vehicle. One with an 8" lead the other with a 16" lead. The one with the 8" lead is $10.00 more than the 16". My truck uses the 8" and I have a 16". I was wondering if electronically it made a difference.

Oxygen Sensors

There are only two types of oxygen sensors:

1. Heated
2. non-heated (or one-wire)

If both are the one-wire type, then they are exactly the same electrically (they may have different connectors though).

If they are both heated, they can be two, three, or 4 wire models. Each have different connectors and really depend on how far from the engine they are installed. Electrically they consist of the same sensor with an additional heating element.

For more detail, read on:
The one wire uses the metal pipe as the ground and the wire is a voltage that varies from 0VDC to 0.9VDC with 0.45VDC being stoic.
The two wire has the same voltage sensor, but the heating element gets 12VDC with the ignition switch and ground through the pipe.
The three wire does the same, but the Heating element ground is tied to the o2 sensor ground (it doesn't depend on the pipe for ground).
The 4 wire has the heating element and o2 sensor grounds isolated from each other and don't depend on the pipe either.
Each type goes up in price with the more wires they have.

I wish someone could archive this info.
