My 56 f100 had a 6 cylinder and three on the tree, I want to put a v8 auto in it. My question is does the cross member that had the rear ehgine mounts have to be remover? Thanks

It all depends on how the motor/trans combination sits in the frame. If that is the crossmember I am thinking of , the issue is, it also provides structural strength for the frame rails. Remove it, and the frame rails will have a tendency to twist from the weight of the cab on the front cab mounts. Even standing on the running boards will tend to twist the frame rails. Probably not a coincidence Ford put that crossmember very near the front cab mounts.
Mine was removed to install a 390 and C6 trans. I fabricated another bolt-in crossmember from sq. tubing to recover some lost strength.
