New to the forum and new to the world of diesel Fords. Just purchased (10/25) an '03 F-350 XLT CC 6.0L 5-spd auto. The truck ran fine until last night. Only has 350 miles on it. It was raining, about 50 degrees, just topped of the tank. Later that evening, the engine started stuttering for about 5 seconds under load on cruise control. Not towing anything. It also showed signs of 'no response' after coast downs to a stop. Would press the accellerator and nothing would happen for about 5-10 seconds. Then it would stutter and then take off. These things happened about 5 or 6 times last night. The engine, however, never died. It always was running.
I thought of two things, 1) bad fuel when I topped it off, and 2) heard stories of sensor problems with this engine, however, I know nothing of the details on these sensor issues.
Dane - take it back to your dealer and have the PCM reflashed or "reprogrammed" in Ford's lingo. One of the problems you have sounds like "dead pedal" which is a problem I had and didn't even really realize it that much until I read more about it. The reflash for me took care of my problems and now I'm really happy!
Hi everyone,
I too have a 2003 F350 with 10,000 miles with much the same problems as Danecalvin above. The mileage is terrible and the starter turns far to long before the engine cranks. (hot or cold)
I have also experienced a dead pedal with the engine continuing to idle several times. The truck has not been back to the dealer since I purchase. Could someone please point me in the right direction.
The information on this site is very helpful. Just this morning I have read many stories and opinions about the 6.0L PSD. From what I've read, I don't think this problem will leave me high and dry somewhere out on the road. If I'm wrong on this conclusion, let me know! So I think I'll wait and pay closer attention to the characteristics of the engine and go from there. No need to run off to the dealer just yet since he's 60 miles away!
I had the same problem accept mine was caused by the wires slipping off the #1 and #4 injectors so i was basically running on six cylinders. They also reflashed my computer and the only bad thing i notice since then is that the tranny takes longer to shift from reverse to drive. Not sure why they messed with that. Any ideas?
