My 1996 F-250 4x4 ext cab clunks when you turn the wheel. This happens after a rain and while it's wet outside. It seems to dissapear when it drys up outside. The truck has 96K miles. I'm the original owner and have replaced the balljoints and front axle u-joints about 12K miles ago. I'm not crazy about the front end on my truck but I plan to keep this truck for a long time so I work with what I got. Any ideas what could be causing this clunk/pop noise?
My 96 also makes a clunk in the front suspension when the weight shifts due to turning, my truck is 4x2 thou. It also hapens when it is wet and less likely when it is dry. There is also a popping sound from the rear suspension whenever i twist it up, i believe that might be the bushings which i plan on replacing. I would also like to know what that awful noise is
john i just came across a really interesting document that you might want to take a look at that has to do with what i think our problem is. It is a word document that looks like it was written by someone at ford and it has 18 pages of step to step detailed instruction on how to deal with costumers that complain of the same thing we hear from our trucks. They list a number of possible causes of the noise including a loose crossmember, and bad rivits in the frame that need to be removed and replaced with bolts.
