My third brake light is cracked, and I really need to replace it. I've got an '01, and I can't seem to find one for a passenger van anywhere. It looks like you can buy the assembly w/o the cargo light and just swap the old cargo light to the new brake light. However, the assembly for an '01, while the assembly for an 08+ is half that price. It doesn't look like anything changed from 07–08 regarding the third brake light shape or mounting points…but can anyone verify if this is correct or incorrect? Here are two ebay listings for reference. The backs look slightly different, but the shape and all four mounting points (to body and cargo lamp) all seem to lineup…
I don't think theres any difference other than price.
I scored one out a junk yard for a few bucks. It's just hard to find a decent one.

Thanks for the replies! This is good to know. I may just buy that $48 Ford lens and reuse my current dome light. I haven't seen any TYC ones. But the cheapest Dorman one I could find is around $100…and comes with the cargo van dome light, but I've got a passenger van. I ordered one that said it was for a passenger van a few months ago, and they sent the cargo van one. It was a NIGHTMARE getting that $100 back…
Of the standard roof van's I've owned they ALL came with the CHMSL where an interior rear dome light was part of the assembly. The second linked lens assembly will accommodate the rear factory dome light which is separate from the CHMSL---you'd have to buy a new dome light assembly OR swap your existing assembly onto the new CHMSL.
I don't know the year makes a difference unless at some point Ford started using the "later" part on all E-Series to reduce their needed parts for manufacturing or repairs.
