looking for a little help. My son just bought his first vehicle! A Ford truck was what he was looking for and found. It certainly isn’t the original paint, but he plans on enjoying and restoring.
He was told it was a 78 f100, but I believe the vin say it’s a f150.
Can someone help us decode the vin?
thanks!

You can tell it's been repainted but the paint under the sticker matches the current color so it's correct. probably light jade metallic , your color code is on the door tag.
The plate on the driver side door is a warranty tag. Because doors can easily be swapped out to deal with collision damage and other issues, one should not rely on it **unless** it corresponds exactly with the VIN stamped on the frame. The VIN stamped on the frame top rail just under where the alternator is found on a V-8 is the only authoritative VIN. There is a second VIN stamping on the frame top rail. It is located below where a passenger would normally sit. Even if you have a title, if the VIN on the title doesn't match what is on the frame, you have a potential problem.
The VIN itself doesn't help with that unless someone with a database can look it up. But the other plate that would be on the driver's door itself has the color code stamped on it, along with other manufacturing details.
The codes can be specific to when the vehicle came off the assembly line so take care to keep that in mind as you navigate the links that provide details such as paint colors and upholstery.
In the 2 beers and 5 mins I did this, I might of made a mistake, so double check and or get a Marti report to be 100%.
Born on date May78 so says the Safety Certification sticker (white sticker). And yes the metal door tag is a Warranty tag and NOT a VIN plate. The other one in the engine compartment is a BUCK tag used on the assembly line. Thanks everyone for the time and detail! Passed it along to my son and it is amazed and happy. He is picking up a pair of headers from his cousin and is going to start out with adding a duel exhaust (kinda lost the muffler on the 2 hour ride from buying it.)
