Having this code appear & after so many cycles will disappear? I’m looking for suggestions on what part should it be. Replaced the air filter first also history on the truck. It’s a 2011 diesel but my uncle sold it to me with 22400 miles. I question that since the truck sat for so long is this part of the problem? Any input would be appreciated
Most likely a plugged EGR cooler core. You can remove the cooler outlet pipe, which runs from the cooler housing on the passenger side of the engine, to the intake manifold. With that off you can look into the cooler core and see if it is indeed plugged up.
That's an EGR flow to low code, either your valve is out or clogged or the cooler is clogged or both are clogged, gummed up. Pull your EGR valve and have a look.
EGR cooler (insufficient EGR flow). Check the engine vs idle hours. Likely lots of idling or city driving with only 22k. In my experience when the DTC comes and goes, it's just in the early stages of triggering the insufficient flow checks. You can clear it and it won't come back until the next start then it gets bad enough the DTC will trigger as soon as it's cleared even driving down the road. It causes engine derate. Not terribly noticeable empty with normal acceleration but very noticeable towing weight especially up a grade.
