Automatic Transmissin Remote Filter
While changing out all fluids I decided to replace original trans pan with new one with drain plug for future changes.
Now I'm thinking of installing a remote transmission filter in the grille next to the cooler.
If I do the remote, can I do away with the original internal trans filter all together ?
That way I only need to replace the spin-on filter up front.
Also, just picked up everything today to drill and install recested 1/4" pipe drain plugs in both the front and rear differentials.
Just finished replacing both valve cover gaskets, all intake manifold gaskets, along with new set of plugs & wires & pcv & fuel filter & oil filter & air filter & new wiper blades.
All oils & gear lube will be Full Syn.
Removed thremostat so I could get better flow through cooling system while running flush solution for a week.
After all this is completed this weekend, engine compartment & under carriage will be power washed.
Interier cleaned & detailed along with the exterier.
I think that may do it for a while.
Any thoughts ?
Internal filter case acts as a pickup tube on the bottom side that you can not eliminate.
Also, external ATF cooling loop is not circulating until Tranny temp is >150f;
eliminating internal filter element would allow grit from pan to get into Tranny\Pump\ValveBody; not good.
Would be great to not need to drop pan to change internal filter; hopefully some smarter person has a solution.
