I have a 2016 f350 dually cab and chasis with landscape dump I use for my business. Only 26,000 miles filters were changed at 20,000 miles about 10 months ago. Have the extended warranty which none of this is covered under. I was getting a Fuel pressure low message and a check engine light came on and off for 2 days. Truck ran fine. So I dropped it off at the dealer they said the lower fuel filter was loaded with Rust from bad diesel fuel. They have to drop the tank to see if its rusted or just need to be cleaned. If the whole fuel system is damaged its going to be over $10k to fix. I have had diesels for past 30 years and I have never had this problem. Anyone else ever have this problem????
Yes, it happens and contaminated fuel is out there. On the C&C trucks this issue is made worse by how the upfitter did the fuel filler. Water is also prone to sit on tip of the rear aft tank if equipped and leak in from the fuel sender ring.
Only one time in my truck the water in fuel light came on pulled over and drained it without issue. I know Ford says 20k on your filter for the price I’d recommend 10 k intervals if there’s a problem hopefully you will be able to stop it sooner. It’s a good practice to drain the fuel filter monthly and check for contamination. Maybe there is some tank mod that can be done to direct water away from the entry point while it is removed to protect you from having it happen again.
