Ford Protect Plan

What do you guys think about Ford Protect? I have a 2020 F250 with the 10 speed transmission and 7.3L engine. Do you think getting Ford Protect is a good idea for $3,600. Of the 2 previous Ford trucks I owned neither of them had any issues until well after 10 years. I'm also thinking that if something is a bad design I will find that out in the first 3 years of factory warranty. Thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

Well Ford protect has many levels of protection. I would price Lombard Ford , Flood Ford and Zeigler before I purchased.

I guess my real question is have any of you Ford truck owners had anything major go wrong with your truck between 3 and 8 years of ownership?

I think you should do a search, there is so many discussions here on this. Some have and some haven't. I have had pretty rough luck on some of my trucks including two full 6.7 replacements in separate trucks after 100k. Both were covered under ESP, so 40k in repair bills covered by 5k in ESP.

I bought the Flood plan for my F150 at 35,000 miles. When I traded it in at $56,000 miles I still hadn't used it. I ended up getting a refund for the premiums. I'll still buy another on the F250 at about 35,000, but just doing the regular maintenance goes a long ways.

Your truck (and mine) is a first year engine and transmission so the likelihood of an issue is probably statistically higher than the general population of trucks out there. Your quote of $3,600 seems a bit high. The Flood Ford Premium Care plan for 96 months and 100,000 miles with $200 deductible in Maryland is showing $2,060. There is no correct answer to your question, only what is correct for you. My truck has been in service for 11 months and has towed probably 75% of its 7,000 miles and has been near perfect. However, there are many threads out there of those that have been less fortunate with the 2020-7.3L-10sp. With all the electronics on the vehicle, any number of things could short circuit in years 4-8. A failed Sync 3 unit is likely $2,000 or more. I sleep better at night knowing my exposure to any issue over the next 8 years is $200. At the end of the 8 years I won't be thinking of the $2,000 I spent on the ESP even if I have zero issues. I have no buyer's remorse, others will feel the polar opposite and that is okay for them too.

I purchased an ESP from Flood Ford 4 years ago when I bought my 2017 F250. It was a first model year with a new transmission (I have the 6.2, so have the 'G' tranny). To date I have not had to use the warranty, but I have piece of mind for another 3 years. Given what recently came to light on the 10spd transmission and the 7.3 being a 'new' motor; I recommend an ESP.

Others say 'bank' the cost and use that for repairs; if you at the end you made no repairs, you still have 2k+ in the bank. Me, I say get the ESP.

Thanks! How can a dealership sell the same Premium Protect plan for less than Ford Motor Company? Seems a little strange! What are you referring to with the 10 speed transmission?
