Exhaust Filter

I have a 2017 F350 and have had the exhaust filter plug up, yesterday was the third time in the last 10,000 miles. Can anyone explain to me why it is doing this or can anyone point me in the right direction to previous post about this issue? Thanks you!

Usually occurs from too many short drives. In 10 years of 6.7L ownership, I just had my first "drive to clean" message popup. This past year has been a work at home situation for me, where otherwise. my drive to/from work was a 60 mile round trip. These trucks need to get up to temp, and going to the party store and back is the worst thing.

My suggestion is that you have your gost screen enabled for the exhaust filter soot %. Then you can monitor it when it gets close and then take it on a hwy run to clean the filter completely.

I also use a banks idash for monitoring the vitals and it will show when the truck is in an active regen and when that completes.

I have never had a drive to clean message with the 6.7 and I am on my second one.

These guys are spot on. I daily drive My truck and never pull a load with it. I've never had a Drive to Clean message. I have hills to climb so this keeps the filter clean and the regen intervals out...

Like Scott, I have my GHOST, he meant ghost screen... The third one activated. Then this way you can anticipate a active REGEN. I also have an iDash 1.8 that I use to monitor stuff including status of regen and soot load.

I get on the expressway I use to go to work. Climbs hills and gets real hot. I started to leave it in 5th gear and she bakes at close to 1200 degrees (EGT4) the temp sensor behind the DPF. It gets real hot.

Like Dave said, undeleted trucks need to be driven and if they are not, the DPF will clog up. If you can't drive it a lot then get a monitor or use apps like Torque Pro or FORscan to monitor PIDS (parameter IDs) like EGTs, DPF status, fuel pressure, etc.

The first time it went out was a little over 500 miles from home pulling a heavy loaded gooseneck trailer, the second time again was little over 500 miles from home pulling the same trailer. The third time we were pulling a 45' 5th wheel RV around 600 miles. In response to your message it has been pulled many miles. The last time the only way we got home was to disconnect the exhaust. We have had it to the dealership twice so I'm running out of ideas. We have extended warranty so deleting is not an option at this time.

So I take it this truck is low mileage? Remember the DPF isn't covered under extended warranty from Ford. Has the DPF been replaced or was a stationary regen performed?

The problem started at 35,000 miles and has 45,000 on it now. It has had the DPF replaced both times at Ford and they stated it was so plugged they could not do a stationary regin. Am running out of ideas.

Does the truck have high idle hours? I would have to think if you are plugging a DPF the egr cooler is in no better condition.

back to basics, what codes are you getting. What does your invoices from past repairs indicate?
