Can you hear the pump run?
You said you have voltage to the pump, did you check the ground?

When you turn the key to the one position, the pump should run for a few seconds, maybe 5 seconds. You can hear the pump run?
Did you put gas in the tank after put it together?

Try cycling the switch on and off several times to bleed all the air out of the lines.

Turn the ignition switch on and off several times. Sounds like there's air in the system still. Do you see any leaks?

Have to turn the switch off for about five seconds each time or the pump will not run.

I didn't see what year truck you're dealing with but is it a possibility that your fuel inertia switch tripped? On my '96 it's located behind the side kick panel on passenger side near the top. My panel has a slight rounded cutout where the switch is located and you can get a finger in there to press the button at the top of the switch to reset. Good Luck!

what year is your truck...?

86- 94 i know for sure, yours too probably uses the manual fuel tank selecter valve.
rubber diaphram in switcher goes bad

it uses fuel pressure to switch front to rear, vice versa.

that's why when you flip the switch to front tank no fuel gauge reading.

The fuel guages are switched by the selector switch in the dash, so there has to be a bad connection somewhere.

I don't think it's the inertia switch because he said the fuel pumps are running.

Sounds like a plugged pick-up in the rear tank. If it worked fine, why did you change it? Bad tank? Was new tank the same?
