Part Name?

I'm a noob. It was my understanding that this part that I have pointed to in the pictures is the bumper, and the part that everyone thinks is the bumper is just an outer covering for the actual bumper. Is that correct? I want to replace this one but cant find a part name or number for it. It's for my 2001 F-250 SD 4x4. As you can see this one has quite a bit of rust damage, so I was just going to slap a new one on. I'm assuming a couple things: 1. you can purchase one new individually 2. it will be fairly easy to replace. As I said, I'm new to the auto world for the most part. Bought this truck for $700 so I can learn how to work on something without jacking up my daily driver.

No.

On Super Duties, the bumper is the big honkin piece of steel that normally hangs off the front, that you have removed (guessing it was damaged from these pictures?).

The part you are pointing to, IIRC, is your lower radiator support. Or is integral to the lower radiator support, one or the other. It has been a while since I have been elbow-deep into an older Super Duty.

Either way, that is NOT your bumper. If this were a car with a plastic bumper cover, that would be your bumper. But not in this case.

Thanks for your help. I started searching for a lower radiator support, but wasn't having any luck matching this part. I took my pictures to the local Ford dealer's part department and they told me it was technically part of the bumper assembly but is called the front cross member. (Part # 4C3Z-5C128-BA). They wanted $295 for it! I came home but have only been able to find it on a couple of websites, the cheapest being $190. So, I guess I'll hold off on replacing it just yet.

That lower crossbar is commonly called the blocker beam, its function is to prevent the truck from riding up on top of a smaller vehicle in a wreck. And your blocker beam is not rusted anywhere near to the point of replacement. If you want, run a wire brush over it and give it a fresh coat of paint and it will look like new.

Check out the middle section of the first pic, it's almost rusted all the way through. Thanks for the name though. When I searched "blocker beam" I got a few more websites offering it than when I searched "front cross member".

Yep, now I see that the center is rotted out.
