I am in the process of building a 302 for my pickup and was wondering what kind of hp/tq I could hope to make with my combination of parts. It started as a stock 1980 2 barrel and is receiving the following upgrades:
•Edelbrock 1405 600 cfm carb
•Flowtech long tube headers
•Edelbrock performer dual plane intake
•Rebuilt GT40 P heads
•Edelbrock performer plus cam with .270/.280 duration and .448/.472 lift, 112 lsa
Bottom end is completely stock.
EDIT!: Tore the motor apart today to begin building it and the bottom end is not stock, it has performance flat top pistons and forged rods.

For a truck, I wouldn't go with the GT40-P heads, because they are better flow for higher RPM HP.
Get heads that will match your cam, that will give you best torque for your truck.
Also, you may have issues with GT40-P heads due to spark plug angle and headers not fitting them, as they are different than GT40 and other stock heads.
Depending on your budget, either get aftermarket aluminum, or port yourself E7s.

Yeah I was aware of the spark plug issue before I bought the headers, so I made sure they would work. As for the heads, I looked through countless forums and it all seems to be a matter of opinion so I’m just gonna give these a shot. I’m not on a big budget, and not really trying to build any kind of race motor, just want to liven up the 302 a little. Thanks for your input!
And double the chances of blown head gaskets and broken crank too. The 1980-85 302's had the lightest blocks and weakest cranks of al of them. Thin decks made for poor head sealing issues. And the early 50 oz/in cranks ? I've seen two that broke in half in stock applications.
