BTRAVELEN, Hey stranger, yeah i have a barn only and just dirt. Those shortys are hard to install,i would have never made it without my friends shop and tools and mechanics.
V10KLZZ71S,
I just got the same headers you have from ebay. My question is where did you buy your copper gasket from? was it a website? I can't seem to find them on the internet.
Also anyone know where I can buy an aftermarket Y-pipe for my V10.
Thanks,
Roger

dgodude,
I got the gaskets from SCE Gaskets,888-427-5381.
I had to order three gaskets for a 4.6-5.4 to get enough gasket for ten cylinders.Hang the full set [4] on the back four, then snip 1 hole off of the extra gasket for the front cyl. They delivered it to my door for 38.00.Very nice gaskets. Also before you start with the headers, drill them out way bigger[dont know what size] in order to be able to start all bolts.Never sieze all bolts, run a thread chaser thru all exhaust bolt holes in head.Otherwise there is a good chance they wont start, and an even bigger chance that you will cross thread one crooked.THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!Remove both inner fender panels, wheels, steering shaft from steering box.Unbolt dipstick tube and leave connected, as you will have to fish the tube thru the headers.Man,I would not recommend this for home unless you have a nice shop with nice tools.Make sure no bolts are crossed threaded! When you remove the manifolds, there is one bolt hole at the rear of the manifold, i think drivers side, that is oval shaped, the header hole has to be elongated also. One tube contacted the frame on pass side, a hammer fixed that, cant even see it.Other than installation, i love my headers, very quiet now. Going to north georgia around thanksgiving, i will check my mileage good then.
Those headers must be significantly different than the Borlas. I was able to complete the install by removing only the passenger tire and fender liner along with the dipstick tube. They slipped into postition from the bottom no problems. All this in my garage at home over a weekend. Did some sitting on the front engine area for the driver stuff, helped a ton. After much cursing you are able to somehow reach each bolt, even though it looks impossible. I still can't figure out how you guys change the plugs, the passenger rears look 10x harder to deal with than the header install.
Any body look inside their manifolds? The ports seems to be different sizes.Strange.If someone else could look at theirs and see if i am imagining things. Also look at the bolt holes they are all different sizes.Last but not least this part looks to be not thought about much seeing the design is pretty pitiful looking as far as helping extract exhaust gases.I havent looked at chevy manifolds, but i wonder what they have.
well, Mon my truck goes into ford to get some stuff that Ford said it needed, some kinda Ford sevice bullittin,, I aleady snapped 2 bolts off in the head, I got the manifold off, but the bolts snapped inside.. BUT... One of the bolts was already broke, you know how when you snap a bolt its nice and clean where you broke it, 1 i have is all rusted and you can tell its been like that a while. SO I am gonna show ford Mon and tell them to fix it.. I didnt even get a 1/4 turn when it came off..
dgodude,
where do you live exsactly, I got the same headers... If your not too far from Trenton Il, maybe we should team up... get them both done.. but depends on where your located, say from St.Louis,, where r u..
I am also going to run true dual exhaust too, But Im doing it myself, I weld, have my own welder, plus I work at a tractor, deisel shop and can get 3'' exhaust pipe all day.. lol.. so I will be building my own..
But Im shooting for next week end,, so I am gonna look at things for the next week and see how Im gonna go at it..
Thanks again
Erick
You guys with off brand headers should probably look at some heat shielding for the starter and the brake lines where they run close to the headers. Also for the fluid lines running down along the left side. This is included in the Banks kit, probably for good reason.
I don't think that reason is to make us feel better for forking over premium cash for a well engineered and tested system!
Actually, these shorty headers tie into the exhaust in the stock locations, same as the stock manifolds so this is not an issue, but thanks for the heads up.

I got the same headers and I didnt have any problems with the bolts lineing up. I just notched the frame for the pass. side. This job was a pain. I broke quite a few stock header studs and I had to drill and retap. I wouldnt recomend these to anyone that dosen' have proper tools. IT took me like 10 -12 hours to install and was the worst set of headers i have ever instaled in my life
10-4, it took us all day at my friends fully equiped mech shop.4 different people took turns working on it including me.But i have to say the results were worth it.My truck was fast before, but now it has so much more low end trq.I have 1 wheel peel, and just hitting the throttle makes the tire spin so easy.
