I was going to get back into a diesel this summer, I figured 'Hey people have been laid off, not working, they won't be spending anything.' Was looking for a CC F350 XLT Premium w/o a sunroof, didn't really matter if it was long box or short, preferred non-dually (just don't need it).

Boy was I wrong. I would see one I was interested in listed online, and by the time I called they already would have a deposit on it. And then there was the chip shortage.

Around here, it's basically stripped-down work trucks or loaded-out Lariats and up. Or gassers, which I just don't want.

So I'm just gonna wait it out.

My son and I just drove down to south central Ohio to pick up his KR Tremor, He had two others lined up that fell thru, one in WY. and one here in MI. While picking it up the salesman said he sold four trucks out of state this week, Ok, KA, GA, and now MI. From my son and I looking, it looks like the hi-end trucks are very hard to find, a standard truck not so much, but I would imagine that will change soon due to what's going on in the supply chain. I will say he could not stop smiling on the way home. I'm happy we found this one only 230 miles from home, the one he almost got was in Casper Wy. that was going to be a solo 3 day trip for me to pick it up for him. I do suspect there might be some good deals once the chips come in and the trucks in the lots are released.

IMO, the right approach.
This to, shall pass.

In my business, the same thing is happening. The same reasoning... shortages, labor, Covid...blah...blah..
It’s all about raising prices to make up for past losses and inflate the base costs. I’m on board, and I’m also raising prices.....and like in years before, things will settle in a year or less. In the meantime, don’t fall for the fake urgency..

Right now, people..adults..teen age workforce..everyone.. are sitting home, getting fat and weak on stimulus and inflated unemployment...and spending outside of their own means and wanting to gift themselves a vacation, a car..anything..that’ll come to a grinding haunt this fall when the free funds dry up and suddenly they are broke again..

The “chip” shortage excuse for new vehicles is an assassination of our intelligence...

with respect, this is one of the few things I’ve heard since Jan 2020 that isn’t an outright lie. The fact that there are more orders for components than can currently be filled is true.

Ford isn't slowing production as part of a scam, it's costing them money for every vehicle they could have sold but couldn't produce. the dealers can recover part of the losses from reduced volume with higher margins but Ford can't.

But I agree waiting makes the most sense. prices will come down and probably by years end doubt about it. on the other hand the used market is so strong if you can make up the rip off factor on the new purchase with value on your trade it's just trading dollars.

Respectfully, I believe you may want to do a little research on the issue.

I think Ford has released that this slowdown on production will likely cost them 2.5 billion dollars this year.
GM is in the same boat as well as Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Dodge......add your favorite one here.

I'm shocked that one singular plant in Japan partially burns down and causes a global shortage on chips.

Not getting political, but Trump was right.....we need to build stuff here!
Now with the current administration, businesses that were coming back are now making plans to go elsewhere because of the huge tax burdens coming.

Correct. The chip shortage is an absolute truth, and it isn't just affecting the automotive industry. It has affected pretty much all industries.

And really? It shouldn't have been a surprise. Auto sales slumped at first, and factories closed, so automakers cut back on orders for the chips. At the same time, demand for home electronics (particularly gaming systems) which also use these chips skyrocketed, and chip makers simply sent their inventory to customers who wanted them.

Demand for home electronics has NOT SLOWED DOWN, as demand for vehicles has picked up. Which has lead to a shortage of chips because THERE SIMPLY ISN'T ENOUGH CAPACITY to make enough for everyone. It wouldn't matter WHERE they were made, the capacity just isn't there.

If you think the chip shortage is not real, walk into the average Wal-Mart and look at the TV inventory of actual saleable units.....

We've been on the hinge of buying the wife (retired RN) a new 4Runner. (Our 2010 has 200k now on the odo) Toyota is having the same chip problem.
The higher end SUV, HD trucks are all suffering and it won't end in 2021. Just hope 2022 brings more for the American market.
Oh, and hey, with corporate taxes going up 8%, expect to pay MORE next year.

Elections have consequences.

Think about that before you suggest this has been a joke.
Nobody said covid was a joke, but the masks are. Are you suggesting they would be alive if they had worn masks? Evidence? I know some who always wear a mask; got the china virus. Others, never wear a mask; have not gotten it. I don't buy it; I have zero confidence that a paper mask (probably not worn properly) is going to protect anybody. It is just a control issue by corrupt politicians to see how far they can go keeping the population under their thumb; imagine what will come next.

However, I thought we were talking about trucks?

We can produce everything here in the US , that would be great. and if you are willing to pay $148,000 for a new super duty we can make it happen. if we import enough workers.

It all sounds so simple as long as you don't think about it.

China Virus..LOL....This correct explaination is so old, and it’s impossible to make a Fox News watcher understand something so unselfishly basic... mask wearing is not about protecting the wearer, it’s about protecting others from the wearer that may possibly be infected and carry the virus. It’s about respect and concern for others. Some just can not understand what unselfish means, or protecting someone’s grandmother means... it’s such a simple thing to do..
Notice flu was down by 98%?

Dont want to wear one...don't.. just don’t enter a business that require them.
