When my boat trailer does that it means I've lost the wired ground between the rig and the trailer. Only ground connection is through the actual tongue setting on the trailer ball.

Then it is not wired correctly. Even 4 way plugs have a dedicated ground circuit. A lot of people just don't hook them up because it will generally ground through the hitch.
My last 4 Ford trucks have not gotten along well with any trailer I’ve pulled
at current moment, every I slow down. Chimes and trailer disconnected loght
step on fuel and it magically connects
Anderson adjust alum hitch
yeah, sounds like when you decelerate you lose your ground. Then when you start pulling the metal connects touches solidly again and you get your lights.
try your trailer lights out with just the trailer lights connected, don't connect the hitch.
If they don't work get a jumper cable and connect the vehicle frames together to see if they start working again.
its almost always a bad or loss of ground between trailer and truck and its almost always the trailer side. i have had the tbc since 06 in several fords and its always a ground issue. sometimes its hard to find and others jump out at you.
I have had similar problems with my 2019 F250 in the last few weeks. Trailer connect / disconnect, Airbag light comes on when stopping, almost stopped, can't control windows, headlights come on etc. Finally got it into ford yesterday and there was a code that showed the "front display interface module". They ordered a new one and back in the shop on May 10th to replace it.
Could be water intrusion/corrosion in the plug tucked up near the spare tire. When you step on the brakes to slow down, a situation is created. Been there, had one replaced. It also caused all kinds of other weird things with the window controls and stereo that you would not think related to that area of the truck.
Curt adapter for some of these problems especially for trailers with LED lights.
As far as ground My Super Duty has had ground through the harness since at least my 2011. And it was necessary since one of my trailer hitches used a teflon coated ball.

I suspect the ground issue the OP's facing is on the trailer side, not the truck side. Having the ground connected to the 7/4 way pins on the truck doesn't necessarily mean the other end of the connector has been attached to the trailer's frame. My dad used to have an old, home built, utility trailer that he did all the wiring himself. And this is something that I could see him doing. I remember his 4 way plug only having 3 wires coming off it.

Yeah, more than likely the trailer. My comment was most of the trucks have used a ground through the 4/5/7 ways for years and many trailers have a poor ground on the trailer from form that harness.
This problem just started happening a couple of months ago with my truck. I thought it was the older plug on the trailer, but I'll go after the trailer grounds first. Thanks for the tips.
