Question Radiators

I've got a 76 F100 that I am restoring from the ground up and I replaced the 360 with a 390 and I put a new radiator support on it that is supposed to fit the super cooling radiator. Problem is, no one seems to know what radiator this is. I have heard there are as many as 6 radiators for this truck. Anybody got any advice? Thanks, Dave.

A novice, who is about where you are in the restoration of a 65 f100. When looking for replacement radiator, found Ford offered several options depending upon whether radiator core support required front or rear radiator mounting flange. Looked in "the book" and found the 75/76 F100 offered 6 choices w/ front radiator flange mounts for V8's. There are 2 listed w/ rear mounting flanges, and they also have 1 w/ a double mount flange. It appears the largest radiator offered was 26-1/4" x 24-3/16' x 2" or 2 5/8"thick. 'The Book' also makes reference to width of support flange. If you have any further questions i may be able to look it up for you.

Good luck with your restoration,
dave

Great info dave!

Do you have any stuff like that for the '67 - '72 vintage? I'd love to know what all the possibilities were.

barry,

Not sure if this is info you requested, but here it goes. Feel a need to add disclaimer, just received the reference book and in the process of learning to interpret.

Appears majority of the 65 thru 79 truck radiators were interchangable. The rear mount flange for the V8 was not available until 75.

Obviously, critical to match radiator to core support.

65-74 truck list 4 interchange #'s for 6 cyl. w/ front flange mounts, ranging from 18-1/2" to 26-1/4"wide. There are 4 radiators listed for 6 cyl. w/ rear mount flange in sizes ranging from 23-1/4" to 26-1/4", in 3 different thicknesses. From 68 thru 76, the double flange mount was offered.

List of 5 interchange #'s:
65-74 tr> V8, front flange 24-1/4"X26-1/4"X2"
65-74 tr> ", " " 24-1/4"X26-1/4"X2-5/8"
75-79 tr> ", " " 26-1/4"X24-3/16"X2"
75-79 tr> ", " " 26-1/4"X24-3/16"X2-5/8
78-79 Bronco> 24-1/4"X24-1/2"X2"

Note field makes references A.T. radiators not interchangable w/ M.T. radiators, "unless lower tank is switched". Not sure what it refers to. I am sure there are the exceptions. Unless it refers to a separate radiator set-up. My 65 has M.T., with fittings that will accomodate A.T. It also had a 6 cyl. radiator in it for years after putting V8 in it. Engine always remained on cold side.

Hope the info is helpful, and what you requested. Again, would not bet the farm on these numbers.

Thanks Dave, that's what I was looking for! Didn't know about the change point in '75. I think the deal with the lower tank has to do with the tranny cooler. Thanks again!
