There many parts stores out there with very competitive prices. When I start to rebuild my 56 F100 I looked first on the price but had to learn you do better not. If the vent seal cost much less then for example Denies Carpenter there for sure from China and that means not standing for quality. Had the same issue and spend a week to make it fit without success. I decided to order a quality rubber seal what was made for sure to the exact measure as the OEM and it fits first time without any trouble.
Just because Dennis Carpenter is a US company the majority of the parts are made in China..
I do not agree because D.C. is one of only few who manufacture many parts by themselves with original Ford tooling or at least licensed by Ford. For sure the rubbers seals are all made at there shop under licence.
Anyhow I just wanted to share my experience with low budget spare parts and I don't wanted to promote any company.

Dirk,
These were from MidFifty so not some fly by night eBay seller. The only rubber (in name not actual) parts folks that claim only US Made is Steele and these were compatible in price. I know without a doubt MidFifty didn’t make these but have no idea where they were manufactured.
I'm just amazed at how quickly people were able to post pictures of their cowl vent. Bummer on the paint chip, but sounds like that is required to install one.
Now mine fits nice....of course I am still running the original seal...I think there is one there. It doesn't leak.
LOL. I had just brought it in out of the rain....well, I think that is what happened. Or it was wet from me rinsing off the CLR cleaning off the surface rust.
Joe,
I’m scared to death the damn things gonna leak. Prior to installing the upholstery you can bet I’m gonna be hosing water all over that baby. I hate the smell of wet carpet.

That's what you get when you go all fancy with carpet and such. Stock style rubber mat is the way to go.
And yes, wet carpet smell is nasty, be sure your seal is good.

So who makes the best cowl vent seal? and where do you buy it from? My original is still on the truck. Question-Does the weatherstrip attach to the vent assembly or the cab? At the moment mine is froze shut and unable to tell. I'm not going to try open it until I go get a can of PB BLASTER.
The po of my coupe went through a few stereo head sets before he moved them to behind the seat . It seems water from a leaking vent and electrical equipment aren't compatable .
