Another "Wonder Why" Question?

I was sitting in the parking lot of a convenience store this morning and a PSD 250 XLT SD pulled up beside me. I've seen a few of these before but on a limited bases....this truck had a "PowerStroke V-8" emblem on its fender rather than the more traditional emblem we are used to seeing on the doors. It looked like a 99(had seats like my 99 V-10 SD) but the wheels weren't the same as all of the 99's I've seen before.
Do any of you "PowerStroke Guroos" know what the story is behind this emblem set up..early build, late build,in the middle build...leftover emblems they wanted to use up or what?
Just to throw out another odditity to this emblem question...my 99 V-10 has a "stick on" emblem on its fender while I've seen some other ones have a chrome ones that says "V-10" My truck is black in color and most of my emblem has a black background. Now if you are totally confused , give me the "scoop" on this question? Thanks

I have a close friend that ordered a F350 CC PSD DRW late in the year 1998. He took ownership of it finally in Feb. of 1999. His has that same stick-on emblem on the front fender in front of the wheels. I think these are the original emblems they used when they changed the bodies to the 99 SD. If I am not mistaken, I believe they used them on all the model year 99 PSD trucks.
(I'm sure someone will know for sure)

The truck you saw was an "Early 99" model. They made a few changes in the middle of the 99 model year. I think the cut off build date is roughly 3/99, any thing after that is a 99.5 or "Late 99"

Althought, my SD has a build date of 12/98 and has most of the changes on the 99.5. It think in must have been one of the first Late 99s.

Early 99's had the fender badge. Early 99's were built until 12/8/98, 99.5's thereafter.
