5.4 2007 start noise

When it's cold it rattles for a few seconds like the timing chain is banging the cover. After a start up or when warm quiet as a church mouse. We let it sit 4 hrs and big start rattle, shut off and it starts quiet again.
am I correct in suspecting hyd tensioner? I was going to remove the belt today and check the moving parts on the front end, all looks to be OEM or none of it new anyway. I think its got 170 on the clock, runs great.

Yes, still using 5/20. She has been servicing it regular, way plenty. I posted this in the modular forum after I figure out how some of this worked.

Ya, it was suggested to buy a reman engine then take it apart to make sure it was put together right.

I have two vehicles with 5.4's, with over 150K on each of them, and I have been using 15w40 diesel engine oil in them since they were 100K. Can't speak for all, but for me, it has almost completely eliminated the cold start rattle, others may have had a different experience with it though.

Probably wouldn't hurt to put an oil pressure gauge on it as well to see if its behaving.
