am I correct in suspecting hyd tensioner? I was going to remove the belt today and check the moving parts on the front end, all looks to be OEM or none of it new anyway. I think its got 170 on the clock, runs great.
I have two vehicles with 5.4's, with over 150K on each of them, and I have been using 15w40 diesel engine oil in them since they were 100K. Can't speak for all, but for me, it has almost completely eliminated the cold start rattle, others may have had a different experience with it though.
Probably wouldn't hurt to put an oil pressure gauge on it as well to see if its behaving.
