I switched from 9.50 16.5" tires, to LT225/75R16 tires on my 1982 E350. Speedometer now reading 5 mph fast. Has a dark green speedometer driven gear on the end of the cable. Are there different gear choices for the cable end? Van also has 4.10 gears.

DUH, , If i had reread the topic I would have seen he said C6! I think the AOD was used in the econolines from 83 to 93. But what I was trying to find was the number of gears on the output shaft of the C6. The gear that the plastic cable end runs on is made into the output shaft. I am not sure if different years of what vehicle the C6 was used in makes a difference on the output shaft gear. I believe that is called "drive gear:
I used a tire size calculator and it would not let me input the LT but a 225/75R16 tire shows to be 29.3" in diameter. I don't know if the TL would make a difference.
So 4.10 rear end
29.3" tires
And now we need the # of drive teeth on the shaft

The only way I know to count the teeth on the drive gear is to pull the out put tail and count the teeth. Honestly, I haven't messed with a C6 since the 80's I'm not sure you can pull the tail out with out disassembling the whole trans can you?
I am not sure Mike1. I have had the tail shaft housing off of my 85 AOD to check the governor and it just basically comes except for the 2 of 4 bolts that broke and the drill bit I broke in one of the broken bolts while trying to get it out! The tail shaft on the C6 also comes off but I am not sure what is involved.
I have some literature with part numbers and will post it in a bit. I haven't learned how to use the book very well so double check any part numbers i post.
i will add it to this post in a bit.
Well this isn't going to help much because it shows the stock 16.5 tires. It is interesting though that the vans came with different gears depending on the tire it came from the factory with. This also verifies that the gear is part of the output shaft.
