OK.. Not really just a Super Duty problem BUT figured I might get more sympathy from you guys...
So after eating a sandwich on a long ride home the next day I noticed a couple onion slices were sitting on my new leather seat. They fell of and I sat on them for a bit. I took dish soap and washed the seat, then took leather cleaner and washed the seat followed by leather conditioner... And my seat still has an onion smell. ANY idea how to get rid of this that won't damage the leather? Thanks!
Well the good news is the smell will oxidize and eliminate itself if the source was removed. Soap and water would be the preferred cleaner in this case. If the smell has gone into the foam then a strong odor eliminator is hand like Ozium or Meguairs Air Re- Fresher short of using a ozonator. Those are my methods and others will have theirs. Also lots of fresh air helps.
Shampoo then treat your seats. Just wiping on a chemical and wiping it off is doing nothing. Use a soft leather brush! I own a detail shop and do this all the time.

If its that bad and it seems to be, the make a paste out of baking soda, put it on where the onion was on the seat, let dry over night and wipe off, then use saddle soap to clean...
Baking soads will not harm your seat in any way, what it does is neutralize the onion oder...

Awe good old onion smell... a leather safe oxidizer is the key...
It’s the amino acids that are the cause... years ago had to put an oxidizing air scrubber in a plant that cooked millions of pounds of onions a week... the local city population didn’t much appreciated the smell... NaOCl and NaOH through a wet air scrubber did the trick!
I posted on another thread about smoke smell, but my go to for car smells has been Ozium:
Wow, your burger places must suck! Reason being, you want that smell gone. There is a burger place in westland, mi called brays. Onions on their burgers are so good you would want them on your seats to smell them even after you ate them.

I hear ya! I use to cook for the boy scouts at the local carnival. Lady contributed 5lbs of raw onions sliced for people to put on their burgers. Before things got going I put a handful on the grill for myself. Wind shifted across the crowd and some guy asked if he could get some on his burger. Ended up grilling up all 5 lbs that year and 10lbs every year afterwards. Love that smell... BUT these were raw onions on my seat.. Totally different animal...
