Diff Gasket (reusable)

2017 F250 6.2L 4wd

I changed all my fluids at 50k miles. Now at 100k I get to do it all again...... yeah!!!

At 50k I simply pulled diff covers and scraped/cleaned, scraped/cleaned etc etc and applied the Ultra Black permatex to re-seal.

Would luv some drain plugs..... just don't luv them bad enough to spend $600-$800 for diff covers.

So ...... I'm going to try the Spicer (Dana) reusable diff gaskets...... next best thing to a plug.
Front = Dana 60 = Spicer RD51999 $30
Rear = Sterling 10.5 = Spicer RD2002 $30

Since I could not find any info here I figured I would post up. I should have them installed tomorrow and will update. I'll also try and update after some mileage history.

************************************************** *
Note: I read in another thread that service manual calls for diff fluid "extraction" and fluid fill. Owners manual states service at 150,000.

I do 5000 mile oil changes religiously. 16 plugs were changed at 75000. All fluids except coolant at 50000 (xfer case, diffs, transmission, brake fluid). At 100000 I'm doing fluids again to include coolant, transmission filter, and belt.

To me a little extra maintenance is insurance against failures and unexpected down time.

Item - OwnersManual schedule --- My schedule
Oil Change - 7500 miles --- 5000 miles
Transmisson Fluid - 60000 miles --- 50000 miles
Axle Fluid - 150000 miles --- 50000 miles
Spark plugs - 97500 miles --- 75000 miles
Coolant - 105000 --- 100000 miles
Belt - 150000 --- 100000 miles

Have you considered using an oil extractor? Just suck it out the hole.

Yes I have.

if I'm going to spend $150 on fluids I would rather make the effort to remove as mush fluid/debris as possible and inspect internal. With the reusable gasket, it makes the process 'almost' as simple as a drain plug or extractor IMO.

I'm cutting time considerably once I have a reusable gasket installed.

Also, on my first axle fluid change, I was going to try extraction..... had problem getting tubing down to extract very much. Maybe I didn't hit the right spot or whatever. Ultimately popped the covers and refilled.

My last truck after I drained I drilled and tapped under ring gear for 1/4 pipe plug, then future changes were easy, will probably do same when this truck is ready.
that's how big diffs are setup and it's easy to drop fluid and refill.

I just use red RTV but I've read good things about LubeLocker reusable gaskets.

I use LubeLocker gaskets on my OBS trucks. No complaints after many reuses.

Depends on what rear axle you have. I pulled pans and replace fluid both front and rear at 5000 miles. Philip.

I used the lube locker and ordered the aluminum cover below off amazon,

Dorman 697-725 Differential Cover for Select Ford Models

Made a big difference in temp on the rear axle as I tow very heavy and every day. Might not make a real difference in the long run, but I feel better about it, lol.

Just contacted Lube Locker and they apparently don't have interest in customer inquiries. Spoke with a woman named Loretta whose only answer was to contact Summit Racing. Feel free to contact Lube Locker at 775-246-6110 to see if you have any better luck about discussing new product development ideas for the Dana M275, and M300 axles.

I've read that longer bolts are needed needed for that cover. Where did you source the bolts?

Lowes or home depot. 1 1/4" bolts. I used the ones that take a hex key as I couldn't find anything else and to lazy to go to specialty store. Maybe next time I'll get different bolts.
