If any of you out there have a interchange book, would you let me know what is the latest vehicle is that this diff. is put in. One place said 2017. Is this true. If so will look in wreaking yard for one. Thank you.
Since you posted in this section I assumed you have an '87-'96 F150 and not something newer.
And since you specifically asked about the diff I assumed you are not looking for the whole axle.
if that is the case, the 31 spline 8.8 diff in these trucks is the same as used in the 5.0 Mustang and 5.0 T-bird/Lincoln MK2 as well.
Yeah we're getting into common names for parts so some clarification is necessary.
The term pumpkin/3rd member was used for the assembly that detatched from an axle like the 9", it contains the differential and the ring and pinion inside a special housing. There are other axles that are similar but the 8.8 axle doesn't come apart that way.
A differential is the same regardless of axle, it's the smaller assembly inside an axle that contains the spider gears and/or LS diff components and is the part that carries the ring gear, on the 8.8 this is accessed by removing the rear cover.
