Some of you are probably very familiar with reps and use them regularly. Some of you might have no idea what I'm talking about.
It's somewhat of a digital relic from old forum days, and we will be uninstalling Reps from FTE next Monday for an easier way to encourage other users' posts.
Once the Reps system is removed, it will be replaced by the ability to "Like" posts. You may have seen it already on other forums if you frequent others outside of FTE. You might have even seen them on our sister (brother?) sites, like F150Forum.com or F150Online.com as well.
We intended to roll out "Likes" a few years ago, but the thinking at the time was that maybe we could merge the positive rep points that a lot of you have accumulated over the years as positive "Likes" already built in when we flip the switch, but there really wasn't a feasible way for us to "do the math" if you will.
So after some discussion with the moderators, we've decided instead to get rid of Reps altogether and move forward with Likes, but the moderators did feel like we should give Reps a proper goodbye by way of an announcement.
DITTO Tom. and sorry we couldn't converge the two.
But all things move forward and it wouldn't be the first time I have been the this kind of change in other forums.
So what does a like button encourage? Just the ability to like individual posts? It would seem the reputation points system shows which users have contributed and been acknowledged for their efforts.
Will it just be Like, or will it have , Like, thumb down, laughing, sad/mad?
I ask because it seems there are some sites that have added these to the same button.

Thanks Joseph. I'm assuming each user will have, number of likes given, and likes received on their posts, like on F150forum? I sorta like that format since you can give credit right then and there, instead of having to spread reps around before you can add more reps to any one user.

It affirms that everyone is important in there own unique way and that their dialog is valued. Engagement with positive signals is the key to changing the world.

I have one infraction on my record from 2008 where I was a little too angry on a bad day with someone who was really annoying. That might have been a time when I did a bit of drunk posting also
I kind of liked the green squares as a mark of seniority but it's all good.
I was gonna ask the same thing ...BUT ya know it will be abused just like on Boobtube
We decided very early in this project years ago that we'd rather not allow the possibility of abuse of the "negative" button--simply by not having one.

infractions are a moderating tool, so they are staying put.
