I'm looking to order all new tie rods for the front of my truck, but am confused on which ones to get. All the catalogs I see show different one depending on the serial number, but I'm not sure what the serial number is. Can some please explain I don't want to order the wrong ones.
I have a 1968 F-250
Thanks
The serial number is part of the VIN that is on the door. M00,000 is the crossover for those parts. I'm almost certain you will use the older version. My VIN number is F25BKD18853. So my 68 F-250 number is D18853 . The last six numbers in the top row is the serial. If your "letter" is before M, it's the older style. I almost bet is is. I think "M" came later than 68. MK
I just bought everything form Autozone. Perfect Circle parts.
I think the part numbers are
DS736 left
DS737 right
ES362R short on the left to the sleeve
ES362S sleeve
Check out their web-site. It's all there, but a bit confusing without pictures. Prices are quite reasonable. I thnk you can replace it all for about $100.
FWIW, when I rebuilt my front end a few years ago, I found a guy selling a complete set of new MOOG parts on Ebay. He listed them as replacements for a '71 Ford Truck but all the part numbers matched those for my '68 (I don't have my consecutive # handy). I just wonder how much the parts really differ from year to year??? You might go to Oreillyauto.com and run a few traps using different year models. You might find there are/aren't differences.
FYI, I wound up winning the auction for $30 + a few bucks shipping....one of my proudest moments. These days so many guys troll around Ebay looking for parts, the bargains are hard to find.
