I have a 2001, 4x4 Excursion.
What are some good shocks for a smooth ride? I don't care about towing capability yet (I have nothing to tow at the moment), but would really like to treat my motion-sickness prone wife to a comfortable ride. I have a few inches of lift, but I don't know anything about lifted trucks... like I'm not even sure what size shocks to buy. Thanks!
If your lift is very mild, an OEM style replacement shock would work fine. IIRC, when you get over like 2.5" of lift, you need an extended shock. But I wouldn't have a clue what to recommend for strictly ride comfort. My rig rides like an empty dump truck. Maybe call a couple of local off-road shops and talk to them about it.
All that said, the way Excursions came from the factory, it was discovered pretty quickly that the suspension was very under-developed.
If you are interested in upgrading the F-150 Plus suspension to something more robust, contact Junior with ATS. I’ve got a 2WD and Junior set me up with Z Codes up front and ATS B Codes with RAS out back. Couldn’t be happier.
Thank y'all for helping me make an informed decision. I went with the Bilstien 4600s on the front and am very happy with the improvement. They were a bit harder to find for the rear, but will be going in soon.
