I know this is the pickup forum but it thought I’d get more noticed here
i found a 79 bronco xlt a couple hours from me. It supposedly has a 351 engine. Auto trans. Has lockouts so am assuming it’s a np205. Rust above rear wheel wells. I was going to try and go look at it Sunday. I know it all depends on condition but what is the rough value on a bronco these days. It seems to be fairly unmolested.
very dirty, where is the correct air cleaner? does that one even fit and seal the carb? doesit run, is there any record of service? I don't know I would not give much over low to mid $1000s probably $1500 tops unless it just happens to be way nicer cleaned up than it looks... but these old classics are bringing big money. Seems normal for someone to buy them high as a fixer upper then have buyer remorse. That happens often here people trying to resurrect a basket case and time and money escalate quickly. I would not be surprised to see someone pay $5000 for that thing here and just have absolutely no idea what they are buying.

Have to agree with the above.
I would pass on that one to be honest. It is far from unmolested in fact it is molested, the interior is completely butchered and missing major components, the ac system is hacked and the missing major components underhood is not complete has incorrect components and is missing components. You would have to get this unit cheap like really cheap just to make it even a consideration. Personally would pass on this unit, in fact, I would run..
I search constantly for a 78-79 Bronco. I use Tempest. Autotrader,Craigslist, ksl.com for Utah etc. bringatrailer, newspaper classifieds for larger cities. These are becoming very rare and even the neglected ones are pulling 5k. This one however won't. $2500 would be as far as I would go. The bucket seat broncos are fetching noticeably more than their bench seat counterparts, also the swing away tire carrier is more coveted than the spare on the inside. If he has any of the original seats that would help. If you are looking to keep it all original and bring back the glory days you will spend thousands and still need to paint. Good luck
Thanks for the replies. Was trying to work a deal on trading him my 85 cj7 that I value at $4500. I’m in no hurry on a bronco, just wouldn’t mind having one at some point. He’s wanting 5k for it and doesn’t want to budge. I offered him 3500 couple weeks ago. I think I’m just going to step back and keep eyes open for another one. Would love one with green interior to match my highboy
That seems like a WHOLE lotta money for a truck in that condition. Guaranteed to have more rust than it visible, half the interior missing, accessories missing, etc. Been sitting for a long time and I'm sure the *******' wagon interior smells lovely now. Wonder what they were working on in the dash that they abandoned. I don't know the Bronco market but I'd be looking at that as "a grand and I'll haul it out of your field" kind of deal in that shape.
Unless I'm way off base and the Barrett Jackson effect is hitting that hard.
I wouldn't give him more than 1K, everything that has that household carpet on it will have contact cement under it and impossible to remove. Seats are not original, as others have said interior and ac trashed. The air cleaner is kind of rare HD oil bath option. As far as outside spare, I have had one and wished it wasn't there. Wheel house rust is expensive and there will be door jamb rust also. On second thought I wouldn't consider this one at all. 78/79 Bronco are one of my all time favorites, wish I would have kept my 78.

Ya at $4500 he is smoking crack, let some other sucker buy it. That truck is not far off parts.
Looking at the photos I'm getting the vibe the seller pulled it out of the woods somewhere for $500 and it going for the flip. Someone with a lift wouldn't leave their own truck in that shape.
Sure glad i consulted with you guys instead of throwing this up on here after I owned it and got laughed right outta here
Well no sure we would have laughed at you more like "oh man you got hosed"
If the truck was complete and original (not a butchered interior) and the engine ran or at least turns over, he would not be out of line asking that money. But in the condition, it is in....ya no.
X2 IMO that is a 500 to pushing it to barely to 700 dollar.....pretty much a parts rig. And a lot of the good parts are missing. Unless you have a lot more time and money to bring it back around. PASS Headliner trim is in the floor, and I am pretty sure I see a sunroof, AKA rust magnet. No environmental control panel and that is Bronco specific to put the back glass down. No radio because it looks like a meth head took it out. None OEM bucket seats. X100 that **** is going to have lots of nasty glue behind it. Rust in the rear 1/4 panels is common, but when it gets into the rockers on a Bronco is can be BAD. Steering wheel horn button trashed, so what if its a cruise control. Means you have to buy a more expansive one. I see screws in those door panels where there are not suppose to be screws. PASS PASS PASS
We would not laugh AT you, but with you when you realized the mistake you made. And then buy a beer to ease your pain. I'd say for your $4500 you can find a better one than that one out there. Maybe I am wrong, maybe I am just Ford truck crazy.
I disagree and agree with the previous opinions. Bronco prices are dumb and getting dumber. I think people here are remembering the good old days and buying rigs cheap. That one will probably sell for 3k or 4k. On the other hand. I don't think you should buy that one. It's pretty rough and you can get a better one for the money. Like has been mentioned, pay attention to which options are valuable, what parts are hard to find/replace, and of course, what things you care about like transmission type, AC, etc. Unless you can find a neighbor selling one who hasn't looked on the internet, minimum prices on Broncos are going up, and nice condition prices are skyrocketing. But there is a lot of variation on what quality you can find on the low end there.
A while back I bought a 1979 bronco for 500 bucks, it only have 90K on it and was an XLT with a/c. Started and drove it around a field and up on my trailer. Yes it had a smack in the left rear taillight area, but had TONS of good parts, front clip ect.. The motor went in my red truck project. I am still selling parts off it. I also recently bought a 76 2wd F100 from the original owner for $200 and recently a 1979 F250 4wd reg cab, rebuilt 400 4 spd. $250. I find'm all day long like that.
