Recently my 06 F150 has started to have no brakes before starting the engine. By no brakes, I mean that the booster is very stiff, like there's no residual pressure. Truck is a manual transmission so if my parking brake isn't set very tight it will start to roll forward until the engine starts. Seems to do fine after starting it. As soon as engine fires I have the booster back. Does this mean the booster is going bad? Check valve?
I went to Napa yesterday to see if they had a check valve and they didn't list one. Is that something that can be changed separate on this truck or is it made into the booster?

It's a dealer item, assuming it's still available.
Depending on how quickly the OP loses the vacuum, it could be an issue that should be addressed. Or not. He says it is a recent change, which would lead me down the "problem" route...
Yeah, I've been making sure it's set especially tight now, but for the past 14 years it hasn't done that, so I'm assuming something is going wrong. My f250 can sit for months and not do it
I'll try a universal check valve and see what happens
Trying to wrap my head around why anyone would need power brakes on on a vehicle they haven't even started. I apologize if my query is unusual.
Because if it's not holding vacuum, then it is potentially a vacuum leak which in turn will effect the correct operation of the engine. Not to mention that if the leak is due to a rupture in the booster diaphragm the problem will get worse over time.
