Hey guys, gals it’s me again I drive a 2000 f150 5.4 triton fwd, recently I have heard a rattle or whirring under the hood, I had the belt tensioner belt and idle pulley replaced, yet still it’s making the noise. Think it could be the pulley on the alternator? Or any ideas
Take your belt off and place your hand on each pulley on the front of the engine. AC,power steering, and so on and give them each a turn with your hand. If they are making a noise you will hear it.

I’m not sure guess I gotta do the test that someone told me to do with a screw driver
Replaced the alternator whir is gone. I now have a fading odometer. I checked fuses and there’s a purple wire looks like some one rigged it up but it’s like laying in the fuse box bare wired under a fuse coming off some certain pig tail under steering column. Confused to what it is

What do you mean by fading odometer?
Do you mean the trip meter is not working or what?
Pulleys don't make noise, their bearing do. If the noise is coming from the alternator then your options are to rebuild or replace the alternator.
Yep, right on both counts, but if I had said, the bearing they would not have understood as well. Most people just look at the pully and say that is making noise and people like me and others know that it is a bearing that makes the sound.
The digital odometers have a bad solder joint on the cluster that causes it to go out. It is still recording the mileage, just not displaying it for you to see. From what I’ve gathered, just about every F150 from this generation has had this issue with the digital odometer. There are plenty of YouTube videos that will walk you through the repair process and is easy to do. Took me about 15 mins to do mine.
