At the point of needing to get my grill on to finish my project. Have been waiting and hoping DC would get theirs back in stock. They still don't know when that will be. Anyone have any experience with the LMC shells. They have aluminum and a chrome steel. Wondering about fit and wear if anyone has either. Thanks.
I have wondered this as well. Have read in the descriptions that they “are not perfect, expect blemishes”. Not sure exactly how to take that from the company trying to sell me thinly stamped aluminum for $600.
Some of the ones LMC sells are DC. the chrome ones I've seen are imported but they actually look pretty good. but if you want a stock look they're not it.
The DC one I bought was a total POS. it was poorly stamped and had a brushed finish that looked awful so I sent it back. luckily I found an NOS one.
But from what I hear the NEW runs of DC grille shells are much better. if this is true you might be better off to wait or check the vendors and see if they have any in inventory . just make sure it was made in the last couple years.
II’ll correct myself and say that the description I read was NPD, not LMC since they don’t offer any description. I’d assume the few stamping dies out there are extremely worn out and hence the problems. My grille shell could probably be repaired pretty easily if there wasn’t a half inch tear of a hole in the top from someone using the hood as a rest to try to shoot a snake with a .22. Even then in the hand of a skilled metal worker (not me) it might be able to be fixed. For the price of a new one, I’m gonna have to live with it. All of the very few parts trucks I’ve found had front end damage or someone beat me to it. Why can’t parts for these trucks be as cheap as Mustang parts

Try contacting some of the fellas in your state chapter. There's a lot of FTE folks that have a stock pile including myself. It just happens when you've been doing it for awhile. Work out a trade. Let them know what you want and what condition your happy with.
Not exactly a clean solution, but if you get the grill repaired enough to mechanically pass, the Krylon antirust paint in 'Aluminum' color actually is a very light silver aluminum color (avoid their normal spray can marked Aluminum, it is several shades darker) and if you can get the grill looking decent physically, you can get a close-to-factory look for a DD.
