With a small patch of dirt in The City, I am always amazed by the garbage which grows. Literally, garbage. Discarded produce actually grows just like videos on YouTube. I see rosemary, tomato, onion, celery, carrot, mint, cabbage, garlic, plum, fig, peach, potato....... I am not doing anything except digging holes and tossing kitchen waste, then cover with dirt.
Since I am not trying to grow anything in particular, there's always a surprise. A bonus meal of something every once in awhile. I still get free meals from foraging wild growth on freeway ramps, divider medians, and random dirt lots. There's a lot of wild fennel and mustard on hillsides. I'm not brave enough to eat wild mushrooms...
Yet.
A new tree has appeared. Very small blossoms, and now small fruit. I wonder if it's cherry. There's a tree which my brother in law says is avocado. But it has never flowered.
Our forecast says rain showers, but nothing yet. However, the temps are going to rise 7-10 degrees until Friday when it i predicted to be 93. Did I miss the rest of April and May? Just wondering why it is giving us summer weather already?
Well,, we got it up here in he north. Yesterday I got my windshield cleaned for free. Several good squall lines came through while I was out and helped wash the mud and pollen off. Today we got over 1/2” at the house while my parent’s logged 0.73” at their house 9 miles away.
I went for a drive today and the fur child had to go each time it started to pour. We did have a decent wander seeing some waterfowl and upland game.
The best part was my getting out of the house! I’m still working from home.
Rain didn't show up here until around 3PM; about a half-day later than forecast. That said, we got a decent amount of rain at roughly 1/4". Every little bit helps at this point.
Happy thirsty Thursday Nor Cal. Today's forecast in the armpit of California is a nice toasty 93 degrees. Somehow I slept through the rest of April, all of May, and woke up in June. Summer is here!
