m5od crapola
I honestly dont like transmissions. will not touch them, ect ect. but i need some help.
I got a 91 f150 with the 302, and unfortuantly i have the M5OD.
It seems pretty smooth, but you can tell it's got some wear.
As i have read, I'm guessing a ZF just bolts right in correct?
I have to replace the slave cylinder and master clutch cylinder. which stinks. I'm just takeing that to a tranny shop to be done, I will not touch transmissions.
so, is the ZF worth the time to find and buy? Price?
I'd rather have a good trans in here, and keep this dude runnin strong. i like the truck, and will eventually do some more cosmetics to it when i get the powertrain fixed on it.
Also. cause the guy who had it befoure me was a moron and held on to the shifter i got huge play in my shift. It goes into gear fine and all that. but you can wiggle the thing way to far. I want no play in my shifter like it should be.
I just get a new shifter for it right? Bolt's right onto the top ect ect?
Probably have to drop the trans i'm guessing.
I read about the ZF haveing to use the m5od shifter too?
I'm thinking i might go buy a nice after market shifter for the m5od till i get the ZF, and i should be able to swap the shifter to the zf correct?
any sugestions on shifters? I'm not to concerned with shifter throws, but i dont want 5th to be outside the passenger door.
Stock throws seem fine to me. But maybe a little tigher if possibal.
Thanks!
NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO! The ZF and M5OD DO NOT have the same shifter! The ZF bolts to the shifter with 2 bolts EXTERNALLY, but the M5OD shifter actually enters the transmission. You cannot interchange the two shifters! As far as the swap goes I must say I have been very happy with my trucks performance. Hope you decide what to do with your truck!
