It's a shame the way they are treating you Tell them to call 4 wheel parts and get some damn U bolts, The shock bolts you can reuse, done it many times and not 1 ever gave me a problem!!!

50dys with no loaner is completely unnacetable in my book. i could only imagine the steam bellowing from your ears. why shouldnt dana pick up some of the tab on loaner vehicles. likely they would of been the final word on whether or not these muffed axles were adeqaute for the vehicle

So I got my truck out of the shop with the grinding sound on the 5-3 down shift. They worked on it. Got somewhat better and according to advisor I have to drive 500 miles for full effect. He stated they have seen this before on the 10 speed trannys. Here is the info from the ticket.

“Auth code 1777, 1862. Verified harsh downshift from 6 to 5. Checked oasis and found Ssm 50261 is related to customer concern. Vehicle has less than 5000 miles. Performed accelerated main control break in routine. Verified repair. Test Drove. Informed customer accelerated breakin may take 500 miles for full affect. Instructed customer to call after 500 miles if still experiencing issue.”

thanks for the update. That's good to know at least someone thinks they know something about it. I'm suspicious that they've actually pinpointed and fixed it. Put a couple thousand miles on it and we'll see what you think.

What do you think after driving it?

Sounds like a bunch of horse **** to me. How does it drive? I wouldn't have taken it if they said it was only "partially better" I'd have laughed and walked off.

I actually challenged them on that but the stupid service manual clearly stated 1k miles after break in acceleration. They showed me. The dealer said 500 should fix it. It sound better but different. Instead one rather loud and long grinding or whatever sound on 5-3, It was softer 3 short sounds for each gear and nothing really when applying moderate breaks. I’ll go the 500 and see. Fairly happy to just have a service ticket that acknowledges the issue, sometimes even getting that is a challenge.

Just an update guys. Obviously I had some sort of rear axle issue resulting from that pinion flange... unfortunately noise is still there after the new axle so this is definitely transmission related.

Update- the accelerated break- in seems to have worked. 300 miles after the service and the sound is gone.

. Performed accelerated main control break in routine
does this mean that it is a break in issue and that it will be resolved after so many miles of breaking in your car?

I guess. The ford truck shop I took it too told me that the 10 speeds where having issues with improper valve break ins at the factory. Dunno. Could just be luck. I have to SSM they referenced in the repair above.

any update on this. My truck has 2500 miles and is doing the same thing. My dealer has a transmission on order for my truck but if it’s something that can be fixed with a re program I would like to go that route.

what do you mean update? Did you see the date of his post? Did you read it? It sounds like they did a "break in procedure" on a valve body. Not necessarily any pcm reprogramming.

i did see the date. Was just curious if in fact the noise is gone. Mine is doing the exact same thing so would like to know. Is that break in procedure something that can be done on our own or dealer has to flash something into the tcm

well you asked him for an update the very next day after he posted that his issue seemed to be fixed, so naturally I figured that you didn't fully read what he'd said.

I take a little comfort knowing that maybe this is only a break in issue and there isn't anything terminally wrong with the engine transmission. Maybe he'll give an update after a few weeks of driving, but after a day, I doubt he has discerned anything new.
