08 F25O 6.4l====oK, the temperature gage on my BULLY DOG tuner once engine warmed up always stayed at 188 in city driving or highway upto 65 mph and over 65 mph, it went to 190-192...but it would stay at those temps steady. two weeks ago i noticed couple of things : 1) every time i accelarate in city or highway it fluctuates from 188 to 192 in city and 190 to 197 in highway over 60 mph. IT seems its sensitive to acceleration AND tends to run higher than it did before at same speeds. 2) it constantly fluctuates, doesnt stay steady
NOTE: Instrument panel gage needle stays almost in the middle where it always has and the truck drives otherwise normal. no issues so far
can this be just a bad BULLY DOG TUNER issue or can it something else?? any thoughts!!! thank you.
As long as it doesn't "boil over", then stop worrying is my theory on water temps. Water under pressure such as the cooling system will increase the temp at which water boils. With the right mix of coolant and water also with a good radiator cap, you could have the water temp as high as 235 or higher without it "boiling over".
The temps will fluctuate as the thermostat opens and closes. The rise is temp under acceleration sounds normal to me as the cylinders generate more "heat" as you induce more fuel to increase the speed of the truck.
If you are worried about it, you might change the thermostat and see if that solves the problem. I highly doubt it will but to ease your mind, you can change it.

thanks bother. i appreciate your response. as a matter if fact i had order bith a Motorcrat radiator cap and the coolant reservoir caps. figured they r 13 years old and a cheap fix that is worth it. thanks again.
If I recall, these sensors also aren't the most accurate, and will easily fluctuate 2-4 degrees even if the water is at steady-state. The temps you're reporting look good, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
