Hello, starting to replace drivers floorboard, rockers, cab corners and lower cowls. have cab braced and wondering if should install the center floor brace, mid fifty part #7788, before I cut out the floorboard?? or is this piece really necessary? also since its straight and the floor had a arch to it do you guys cut slits in it to make it match the floor and plug weld it or do you just cut to length and weld the ends ? thanks
The '53 didn't originally have the center part. You may want to install it if you are thinking about bucket seats. There might be some center floor flex without it.
If you stand on the floor with no seats in there is a lot of deflection so I think it's a good idea to put one in. The curve on the 53-55 cabs mean some fabrication will be required.
I haven't made my stiffener yet but I have an idea how to make it look like a continuation of the bits which are there. Hopefully I will find out if it works soon. If not I can try making it out of square section.
EfieTrucker is correct, slant cabs do not have this brace. I have added the brace to a couple of slant cabs but I did not use the MidFifty part. I had a local sheetmetal shop bend up the support for me and had a flange added that mimicked the existing floor support brackets. This was important to me since I used structural adhesive to bond the support to the floor, this made the floor very rigid along the full width of the cab.
Thanks for replies. I have bucket seats since I'm using a 2010 mustang gt drivetrain with manual tranny. I had some cracks in floor where the floor braces ended and I assumed 7788 part would fit the floor arch. I'll alter the part to match the cab floor.
