Im considering a 2006 F350 with less than 120,000 on the clock. Does that mean all the problems have been fixed? I know with motorcycles, after the first 15,000miles the things that shouldnt go wrong usually have by then. After that its just normal maintainance.Does it work like with the 6.0? Thanks much.
You really need to confirm it doesn’t have problems now. There is a good read at the top of these posts that says read first.
Any 16 year old vehicle is bound to have some problems.
My wife's 1-yr Jeep has plenty of problems (Jeep products are AWFUL) , ditto many new cars and you're asking if a 16-yr vehicle is "problem free"? I have a 2006 (slightly more mileage than yours) and it has its share of problems that never ever seem to stop popping up and (frankly) that's normal for all vehicles.
Problems stop when you sell it. JK; read the sticky's at the top of the 6.0 section on buying one - lots of good info there. There are still good ones out there.
I checked out the 06 Super Duty after reading the tech folder and it really helped me. The truck has had all the maintenance done and been recorded, of course as mentioned it's 16 yrs old and anything can happen, just not for the first month or my wife will have a fit. It's even got the owners manuals and tool kit behind the seat. .
It's got the coolant filter added and Edge monitor, straight thru exhaust, no smoke at the pipe at all. I think after I pick it up I'm gonna take it to a nearby diesel shop to have them look it over. It does have an oil leak I want looked at that the owner pointed out. He keeps checks on the oil level but hasn't had to add any. The Carfax shows normal maintenance since new with no warranty claims or crashes. I had two Dodges with the Cummins a 99 and 2000. They rusted to pieces and and had tranny issues. Thanks folks!
When we got ours, we were 6.0 rookies. Did a pretty good look over and test drive. Receipts showed all the recent work.
After purchasing we went to a Ford dealer that specialized in trucks and had them run a scan on it. Costs us $169 and told us many things, like relative compression and codes etc. we didn’t have good monitoring tools at that time.
Print out came back showing no major issues, but one injector was not up to snuff.
Well worth the money.
