So up here in the North, spring's looking like it's peeked its head out and she's been getten rainy and a bit froggy out in the mornings and these trucks love holding in the moisture. So been having to rely on the AC in the mornings to cure windshield moisture build up.
What is concsidered normal for the AC clutch to cycle in our trucks? My personal truck cycles at idle about every 8-10 seconds, seems a bit quick and extreme to me and the rpms going up and down at those intervals just seems a bit of an annoyance to me, but i always have ice cold AC during the summers, and it doesnt take long for the windows to defog themselves. Looking for any opinions on whether I should get it tested if its low on refrigerant or if this is normal.
In cooler weather the clutch will cycle on/off more frequently than 75F+ days. If in doubt have the pressures checked as previously suggested if you are worried.
I have a cheap gauge set from Harbor Freight. It is accurate enough for me for the last 20 years.
I refrain from using a dealer or most shops due to them seeing dollar signs in their eyes when you pull up with an old vehicle.
Cool i'll pick up a gauge set. I am assuming there are instructions on hooking up the attachments? Never dealt much with AC in my life so trucking down a new road. (No pun intended)
If there are instructions included, it's been 20 years....it should be pretty easy to hook up the manifold and gauge set. You need to verify low and high pressures. They will vary with ambient temperature/humidity.
I just went through this manifold buying procedure and found four or so real good Utube videos on several various ways to use them. There are some things you shouldn't do especially regarding the high side so the videos helped me be more confident and safe using my manifold. Sandy
