I am looking at possibly buying a 1985 Ford F-150. It's got 139, 000 kilometres on it. 2 wheel drive, short box. It's got a 302 (5.0 L) in it (Fuel-injected) with a 3 speed plus overdrive manual tranny. Things repaired recently: clutch, main seal, and throwout bearing replaced 2 years ago. Brake work recently. Oil pan and gasket 1 year ago. Tires 3 years ago. This guy drives pretty good so I think it's in pretty good shape. It's a short box with a 10 gallon fuel tank. If driven fairly moderately, how is the gas mileage on these trucks? Anything I should look out for? How much is this truck worth approx? He doesn't know how much he wants for it, so I would like to have a ballpark figure to start with. This truck has been emissions tested so that may add some value as well
2 wheel drive trucks aren't worth much up there, though you can drive one through 18" of snow if you know what you're doing.
Don't look for terrific mileage with the four speed, especially if it has a lower geared rear end, like a 3.55. You'll be happy to get 14 (mpg - sorry, I don't do metric. ) on the highway with that setup.
If it's in nice shape overall, it might be worth $2500 USD. Have you tried looking at kbb.com?
Well, I bought it! The only thing wrong with it is that it needs a left back wheel cylinder (easy enough!) and a u-joint. Other than that it seems like it's in really good shape. A little rust in the cab corners and bed. It also doesn't burn or leak oil. The oil was a little black but the truck is 18 years old! Guess what I paid (in Canadian dollars) for this truck? $800!!!! Pretty good, eh? Guess I will have to see how it does in a safety. But, everything looks pretty good. Just thought I would let you guys know.
Just got a '84 2wd f150 with the 4.9 and column shift 3-speed for $500. By the way, does anyone know if this is possible from the factory? The 3-speed was dropped earlier, I thought.
i just got a 86 f150 4x4 supercab 5.8l with a little surface rust on cab interior is very nice no tears or nuthing just on the doors the pannels are sun faded i got it for a $1000 the guy was the original owner and thought the moter was blown up or head gasket was blown or somthing like that i got it and found the catilatic converter was plugged solid took off and cleand it out and is running grat i am so happy with it
