ok. I'm warming up my truck now and will give it a try. I'm using FORScan Lite, but I can try it with FORScan on the laptop as well. Which are you using?

Sorry I stepped away for a bit. Great talking to you, Listor!

That PERDEL not showing up when your truck is warmed up is curious (170F you said, that's plenty). I repeated the experiment on my truck with FORScan on the laptop. After selecting the 8 PERDEL PIDS and hitting the play button, I also got all zeros, but the EOT was only 100F. Took it for a short drive to heat up the oil, pulled over when at 130F, and tried again. This time the PERDELs reported the expected values.

Only significant difference I can see is you are using a wired USB OBDII dongle and I'm using a BAFX bluetooth dongle. Seems like your connection should be even better.

Going back to that hesitation/buffeting with light to moderate acceleration, maybe we skip PERDELS for a bit and measure some basic PIDs. The ones in Bold would be most interesting to me, but you can put in all of these and the PID charting tool will find them.

RPM(1/min) – Engine revolutions per minute

IPR% - IPR duty cycle percentage

ICP(psi) – Injector Control Pressure (select the first ICP as seen in the image below)

VSS(mph) Vehicle speed sensor

FUELPW(ms) – Fuel injector pulse width

MFDES(mg) – Mass fuel desired

EBP_A(psi) – Exhaust back pressure (select the EBP_A and not EBP)

MAP(psi) – Manifold air pressure

IAT(A°F) – Intake air temperature

MAT(A°F) – Manifold air temperature

EOT(A°F) – Engine oil temperature (select the second EOT as seen in the image below)

MGP(psi) – Manifold gauge pressure (boost)

TFT(A°F) – Transmission fluid temperature (only available on 4R100)

VPWR(V) – Vehicle battery power

TC_SLIPACT(1/min) – Torque converter (only available on 4R100)

Fire up FORScan with these PIDs, and hit "play" to start logging. Take a drive and try to recreate the buffeting issue 2-3 times. Remember your speed when it occurs, and we can find that part in the data and take a closer look.

I see FORScan pushed an update to my headunit, so it's possible some of these PID names have changed. Let me know if you don't find some of them. I'll try to load them from scratch myself and see if our FORScan instructions are still accurate.

This is great data, Listor. I see some of the PID names changed in this last FORScan update (highlighted). I copied the names from the PIDs Captured from CSV box to the appropriate chart box to get these traces to show up.

It looks like ICP is not steady during moderate acceleration at times. Here is where you are getting up to speed from a stop. The first part in the green circle shows a normal ICP tracking with IPR%. The second part in the red circle shows ICP wobbling a bit while the IPR% the PCM is commanding is relatively smooth.

In several of the spots where you do a moderate acceleration, I see this ICP wobble. Here's a spot where you make a moderate acceleration, followed by a hard acceleration. The moderate accel has the ICP wobble. The hard acceleration does not, and behaves as we'd expect from the PHP 65HP daily driver tune asking for more ICP than the HPOP can deliver, and then catching up as IPR% goes down. Your HPOP is healthy from what I can see. You mentioned you do not feel the buffet if you push through and accelerate harder - this data shows that to be true.

You and I have texted on this and decided to doublecheck the OEM ICP you have recently installed, and run this same drive with the ICP unplugged. If the buffet is still there, we'll suspect the IPR, and recommend a rebuild. You confirmed the IPR nut is tight.

Was thinking we could name this symptom the "Bart Bobble" given his hairline's similarity - what do you think?

Great charts Jeff! Lolz on the Bart Bobble!

Looking at the excellent data my weak interpretation is the IPR is not holding steady at a certain spot of operation, a bit over 2k psi. Before or after that it holds strong and follows the ICPs commands. Makes me think the coil on the IPR has a bad spot. Easy to pull and check resistance, should be around 10.5 ohms. Could be a mechanical issue inside the IPR I guess.

Can you get data for ICP VDC? This thread has good info on what the values should be for specific PSI. Could help ID if the Bart Bobble is an electrical or physical phenomenon.

OTOH disconnecting the ICP the PCM should command a default 725 psi IIRC so ??

Maybe ya just have a badly out of balance tire?

LOL Love the Bart Bobble! Good one Jeff

Thanks again for your Patience and help on this, it's the little things that drive ya crazy ya know!

I already have the icp rebuild kit from riffraff, i will do my best to get it done this weekend , i will also test it out to make sure it's even serviceable
No tires are good, was one of my original concerns had them rebalanced
