The pump on our 92 humms and you can feel it. Steering is not as good as it used to be. I think it is a belt because the pump needs alot of power to run and when you turn the wheel, the belt is so old that it slips slightly, making the humm noise. The problem can also be from low fluid..
I have a car in which the pump hummed LOUDLY!! You'd hold the wheel left, it would HUMMM loudly and would not stop!! Well I poured more fluid and it still did the same thing. So I replaced the belt, and it now turns easily. No noise and will turn at the tip of my finger. The culprit, belt was slipping and was old!!
